When Indicators Contradict Price
RSI says oversold, price keeps falling. Here is how we teach students to resolve the conflict.
Indicators summarise price; they do not override it. When RSI flashes oversold while swing structure continues lower, structure wins until a higher low appears.
In class we draw the indicator last. Students first mark trend corridor and key levels, then ask whether the oscillator adds confirmation or merely restates what the candles already show. If it restates, leave it off the plan.
Divergence is useful only when it aligns with a level you already respect. Bare divergence in the middle of a range is noise. Divergence into a weekly support band with shrinking downside volume is worth a note.
Next time your indicators argue with the chart, write both sides in the margin. Decide which rule your playbook trusts first — then follow that rule, not the louder pane.
